Since the formation of The Divine Comedy in Northern Ireland in 1989 under the direction of Neil Hannon, the band has been famous for orchestral pop tinged with irony and elegance. The group found its first major commercial and critical success with Casanova in 1996. This was followed by a series of masterful albums like A Short Album About Love (1997), Fin de Siècle (1998), and Regeneration in 2001, which marked a shift towards a more cinematic sound.
