In a ballet that awakens all the senses, choreographer Halla Ólafsdóttir leads Sweden’s renowned Cullberg company as it transforms into a wild host of sylphs. Chances are, you’ll fall under the spell of these graceful yet dangerously enchanting beings.
This is one of the most exhilarating performances you’ll ever experience. Drawing inspiration from Michel Fokine’s 1909 ballet, Sylph invites you into a total sensory immersion. Gliding through the ether, the sylphs sweep across the stage with dazzling sensuality, enough to make you lose your bearings. These ethereal spirits, hybrid and untamed, unsettle with a raw, animal energy that liberates their movement. At the heart of this fierce enchantment – where magic bares its teeth – bodies, light, music and costumes merge in a single, ecstatic cry of desire.
In partnership with the cultural department of the town of Meyrin
Founded in 1967 by Birgit Cullberg, the Swedish dance company has earned international acclaim for the striking originality of its productions. Today, it brings together 17 dancers under the direction of Kristine Slettevold, who has led the company since 2022.
A graduate of Stockholm University of the Arts, choreographer Halla Ólafsdóttir pushes the boundaries of contemporary dance by inventing bold new formats for performers. Her work explores how politics, gender, the art world and popular culture inhabit and shape the moving body.
