In this mesmerising dance piece, Chiara Bersani calls for a revolution in the way we look, uplifting the subversive beauty of singular bodies.

An enigmatic sense of fluidity fills the stage, infusing the mind with a gentle feeling of unreality. With exquisite delicacy, the duo formed by Chiara Bersani and Elena Sgarbossa invites us to slip into what feels like an imaginary forest. Other creatures soon join them. This small community dances a contemporary fable, crafting a unique, intimate relationship with each spectator. In this forest of lost children, atypical bodies are celebrated in all their poetic power.

Rather than allowing herself to be confined by her physical particularity, Bersani challenges the act of looking itself. Active in experimental theatre and contemporary dance, she places the empowerment of constrained or marginalised bodies at the heart of her artistic practice. The signature work of her research, Gentle Unicorn, presented at Aerowaves, won her the UBU Award for Best New Actress/Performer in 2018 and the First Prize in the Dance category at the Total Theatre Awards during the 2019 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. In 2023, Kunsthaus Baselland hosted Deserters, her first solo exhibition. She is an associate artist of the Triennale Milano for the 2025–2027 cycle.
