A couple assembles and then dismantles a cradle. This simple, symbolic act opens a series of powerful scenes exploring the desire for parenthood and all its contradictions. Poignant.
In a post-apocalyptic world mirroring our own, a trans couple imagines what it might mean to become parents. Two people dreaming of becoming three. Yet the anticipation of joy is quickly shadowed by doubt. How do you care for a baby without losing yourself? Raising a child and welcoming their vulnerability in an anxiety-ridden environment sparks a swirl of conflicting emotions, yearning and resistance intertwined. Gaya de Medeiros and Ary Zara embody a visceral, intimate duo, embracing a bold form of theatricality infused with poetic nuance. A short film, shot in real time during the performance, brings the piece to a close.

A Lisbon-based, Brazilian choreographer, dancer, and producer, de Medeiros also studied animated film. She spent nine years working with a Brazilian dance company before collaborating with several artists in Portugal. In 2021, she created her first piece, Atlas da Boca, followed by Baque in 2022. Her artistic research focuses on the interplay between movement, language, and affection. de Medeiros is also the founder of the Braba platform, which supports and funds projects initiated by, or centred around, the trans community.
