What if joy could be unleashed as a spectacular force of resistance? Inspired by Afro-diasporic dances and their contemporary offshoots, Atomic Joy reveals just how vast this heritage is, and how endlessly it continues to evolve.
Dancing to stop the end of the world – the idea sounds fanciful. And yet, the dancing body, carrying memory and vitality, is a formidable weapon against collapse, and joy an inexhaustible source of uprising. Brought together by choreographer Ana Pi, eight young performers from urban dance backgrounds craft, with exhilaration and fury, a meticulously orchestrated work. What a delight to feel creative energy flowing between the dancers like a living substance. Set to the pulse of Christophe Chassol’s music, every gesture connects the past to the desire for a collective future, in a movement that is both sacred and liberating.
In collaboration with Vernier Culture

A Brazilian choreographer, dancer, teacher and writer based in France, Pi stands out for her hands-on activism, her feminist vigilance and the philosophical grounding that shapes her practice. Her study of traditional movement and its constant evolution infuses her transdisciplinary works with a striking radicality. Since 2020, NA MATA LAB has supported her creations and collaborations. An internationally recognised artist, Ana Pi is backed by several prestigious cultural institutions.
